Well done to everybody who ran at the Kent cross country championships on an incredibly cold day but thankfully no snow, writes PAT DUNCAN.
It was great to welcome back Jack Wreathall who has been out of competition because of a broken arm. Although not achieving the position he might of done if fully fit he was still the first Ashford athlete home in the Under 15 age group, finishing in 22nd place. He was closely followed by Darrel Rand who had his best race to date finishing 26th overall and second Ashford boy. Supported by fellow team mates Declan O’Driscoll 28th and Callum Burgess 34th the boys secured fifh place team.
Wth very few girls competing for the club this year I have to thank both Amelia Jones and Isobel Dickinson who have consistently turned out and run for the club. Both girls finished seventh in their respective age groups. It can be very lonely and quite daunting if you are the only athlete wearing your vest so I can only admire their dedication and self-determination to keep going well done girls you are an inspiration.
In the under 17 men we had two athletes running Andrew Robertson who finished 19th and Patrick Duncan who came in 33rd.
In the under 20 men Warren Uden was supported by Dylan Jones who had returned from University in Wales to run. They finished 10th and 15th respectively.
Tim Burt had a fine race in the men taking 32nd with 44:53 while Rob Dennis was 65th in 49:46.
In the senior women Candy Hawkins was a splendid 15th in 30:16 and Lesley Hall 20th with 31:02.
