Three medals for Vicky

May 9th, 2010 by News Desk

TALENTED athlete Vicky Silk secured two golds and a silver at the British Dwarf Association championships in Birmingham.
The Ashford AC athlete from Folkestone opened with the silver with a fine 5.08m in the shot and then  immediately was in action in the javelin where she claimed gold throwing over 20m for the first time in a major championship recording 20.10m.
Within the hour she was back in action in the discus arena seizing her second gold with another splendid performance throwing 17.78m.
It was all the more remarkable in that all three medals came withing two hours and next season the DAA are looking to spread the field events over a longer period.
The three distances thrown are thought to be British Under 20’s records for the D.A. Association. Vicky is certainly closing in on the European records for Under 20 year olds too.
Her next competition will be on May 9 at Perivale, Middlesex, at their County Championships in the UKA Parallel Success meeting.  That is followed by her representing GB/NI at Sport City, Manchester in the Paralympic World Team Cup competition.  This will be her third appearance in this annual competition.
Other important meeting to follow will be at Watford on June 3,  Bottrop, at the German Championships June 11-13, Gateshead on July 10/11th, Crystal Palace,  August 13  to 15th and culminating in Slovakia at the IWAS Championships on August 22-27.
Through this relatively short season, Vicky is hoping to achieve distances in both the shot and discus to enable her to be selected for the Great Britain team to travel to New Zealand in January 2011 for the Disability World Championships.
Before then she will have moved to Wales to undertake three years of study at  Cardiff University.
