Ashford AC training partners, Ashley Cochran and George Huxley, travelled to Crawley on the Bank Holiday Monday, to compete in the Tom Linterne Medal meeting at the K2 sports complex.
Both had competed in the Julie Rose Open on Saturday, with much success; Ashley gaining pb’s in the 100m (3rd in 11.87s) and 200m (3rd in 23.71s, just ahead of George’s 4th in 23.76s) and George gaining first place in the U17 men’s 100m Hurdles with a new pb of 15.94s.
Another of their training partners, Tom Chambers, took second place in the 200m with a massive improvement to his pb of 22.86s.
Both Ashley and George decided to compete in the 400m at Crawley, hoping that they had enough form left to attack their best times. Ashley took silver in the U20 men’s race with a time of 52.15s, just off his best. George came fifth in the U17 men’s race in 54.26s, just under a second off his best.
In both races, the strong wind was following in the home straight, but equally unhelpful in the back straight. They now will look for other suitable open races, before winter training starts.
