ASHFORD AC’s Lisa Dobriskey is confident she can regain full fitness in time to challenge for a medal over 1,500 metres at next month’s European Championships in Barcelona.
Dobriskey could only finish third in the trials in Birmingham at the weekend after having her preparations disrupted by a back injury.
The 27-year-old also missed the trials for last year’s World Championships in Berlin with a back problem, but was selected for the team anyway and fully justified that decision by going on to win a silver medal in Berlin.
And the former Commonwealth champion believes history could repeat itself if she gets the nod from the selectors when Britain’s team is named on July 6.
“I’m going to have to get a fast race under my belt, possibly Madrid on Friday, and Gateshead (on July 10) is definitely on the cards,” Dobriskey told Press Association Sport. “Hopefully I will do enough to get to the Europeans.”

Lisa and Ricky at their wedding this month
WORLD silver medalist Lisa Dobriskey will spend her honeymoon gearing up for glory at next month’s Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country.
The Ashford AC ace, who recently wed ex-Olympic 800 metres athlete Ricky Soos, has been training at a high-altitude camp in Kenya.
And she will continue her punishing schedule during the couple’s honeymoon, right up to the Holyrood Park race on January 9.
Everyone at Ashford AC sends their congratulations to Lisa and Ricky and wish them every happiness and success in the future.
