ASHFORD finished second in the Southern League match at Harrow and will be looing for another good result in the final match at Tonbridge on Saturday (20th).
Gareth Morris was outstanding for the men with victories in the A 400m (50.4) and 400m hurdles (53.6) and there was a double in the pole vault won by luke Williams with 3.85m with Stuart Chisholm taking the B points with 3.20m.
Matt Smiley had a win in the B high jump as both he and Matt Hogben cleared 1.80m and Smiley was also second in the A long jump.
Ashford picked up good points in the triple jump with Matt Morsia second in the A event (14.68m) and young Nathan Fatola winning the B jump with a fine 12.76m.
Chris Blandford took the B javelin with 52.09m just behind teammate Peter Wickens who notched a fine 53.41 to be just edged out in the A contest.
Pete Davey swept to victory in the 110m hurdles and Lee Swinbourne won the B discus after good points in the shot and hammer. Veteran Jon Ward gained a good spread of points in the field events.
Gary Carr, Fatola and Ashley Cochrane covered the sprints with the middle distance events picked up by Matt Hogben, Warren Uden, Dylan Jones and Kev Williams.
The women picked up two doubles Stevie Langford and Debbie Martin winning the long jump with 1.66 and 1.60 respectively and the 100m hurdles points were claimed by Caroline Hatley and Emmeline Rendell. Stevie and Debbie also picked up seconds in the triple jump.
Amelia Jones showed her versatility with a win in the 2000m steeplechase and second in the 800m while Emmeline won the A pole vault with3.10m with Stevie second in the B event.
Rachel Hanagan had a win in the B shot and third in the hammer and young Kirsten Hooten had an excellent 23.58m to win the B javelin with third in the discus.
Veterans Candy Hawkins and Vicky Clarke weighed in with good points while Sam Beckett, Abbie Purkis and Briony Walsh also scored well in the sprints.

Second in Southern League
Golden leap for Ashford duo
ASHFORD’s athletes stood tall against the best in the South with several successes in the South of England championshionships held at the Julie Rose Stadium.
Rachel Hanagan secured a brilliant gold in the U20 women’s triple jump with a wind assisted 11.42m and a leap of 11.39 while sister Laura was fifth with 10.53m.
And Matt Morsia won the senior men’s triple jump with 14.74m.
Debbie Martin continues to show her class with silver in the U20 high jump with 1.65m while teammate Stevie Langford won the senior silver with the same height.
Lucy Holmes landed silver in the U20 long jump with a personal best 4.93m and there was a silver for Chris Blandford in the U20 javelin with 47.23m.
Emmeline Rendell and Kara Gibbs competed well in the pole vault with 3.20m and 3.05m respectively and Sam Beckett was seventh in the U20 100m in 13.26.
Former Ashford star Grace Nicholls from Romney Marsh won the 3000m gold for Tonbridge AC with 9:58.93.
Jumpers rise to the top
ASHFORD AC pulled off another terrific double in the National Junior League high jump at Tonbridge with A and B wins for Debbie Martin and Hester Hill.
They recorded heights of 1.66m and 1.45m respectively and there was another in the 100m hurdles where Caroline Hatley won the A race in 15.75m and Laura Hanagan took the B points with 16.10 in the B race. Caroline also had second in the B long jump with 44.38m and Laura third in the javelin with a best ever 20.84m and added a second in the 400m hurdles.
There nearly was another club double in the pole vault where Caitlin Dock was second in the A clash with 2.50m and Amelia Jones winning the B event with 1.90m, both girls notching personal bests. Amelia was also second in the A 400m and third in the 800m.
Rachel Hanagan again secured good points winning the B hammer with a personal best 21.14m with Amber Regardsoe so close to making it double success with a fine 23.21m. Rachel was also second in the B shot with Amber second in the A clash with 8.93m and Amber was also third in the A discus with 26.53m and fifth in the 1500m in a personal best 7:13.17.
Lucy Holmes had a splendid day with seconds in the A long jump with a personal best 4.90m, triple jump with 9.12m and javelin with 24.88m and a third in the discus with 18.63m.
Joanna Norman claimed the club’s only other victory winning the B triple jump with 9.05m while Debbie Martin had a best ever 28.32 in the B 200m.
Declan O’Driscoll ran a personal best 11:19.68 with second in the B 3000m with Aaron Kellow third in the A race. Declan also had a best ever 2:15.07 in the B 800 and 14.54m in the B discus.
Neil Daughters claimed second in the B 1500m with Jack Wreathall fourth in the A event while Andrew Robertson ran a personal best 7:11.59 for third in the 1k steeplechase. Jack also ran a best ever 56.44 in the B 400m.
Other bests recorded included Louise Barclay’s 3:06.18 in the B 800m and 13:53.21 in the B 3000m; Isabel Dickinson’s 13:53.21 in the B 3000m, Andrew Robertson’s 66.1 in the A 400m hurdles; Jacob Lane’s 1.50m in the A high jump; Will Dickinson’s 4.99m in the A long jump and 7.72m in the A shot; Aaron Kellow’s 15.47m in the A discus and Callum Burgess 4.25m in the B hammer.
