Runners on course

Ashford Athletics Club men’s team are currently joint top of the East Kent Road Relays after a successful first two races at Folkestone and Minnis Bay.
At the first race at Folkestone the men’s squad of Matt Hogben, Matt Britton, Jack Wreathall and Anthony Forsyth finished only 14 seconds behind Invicta East Kent over the 59 minute race. The senior women’s Team of Amelia Jones, Kate Funnell and Chloe Forsyth also finished in second place behind Folkestone Running Club.
The Club also fielded a Vets women team who finished in second place behind Deal Tri with Candy Hawkins, Lesley Hall and Jenny Brown capping off a brilliant set of results for the club. The club also fielded a men’s B and C team with the B Team finishing in sixth place and the C Team in seventh respectively.

The second race at Minnis Bay took place last week and this time Matt Britton, Anthony Forsyth, Matt Hogben and Warren Uden managed to overhaul Invicta to win the race in an excellent time of 50 minutes.
Matt Britton produced an excellent run, running the 3.6 kilometre course in 11:59 and was just behind the quickest runner of the night. The men’s Team are now level on points with Invicta going into the third race at Victoria Park, Ashford on Tuesday June 7.

Double success for teams

The successful Oxney race teams

ASHFORD AC had an excellent day at the Isle of Oxney 5 mile race in Wittersham winning both the mens and women’s team prizes. Leading the way was Matthew Hogben who finished an excellent second in a personal best time of 29:08. He was closely followed by team mate Kevin Williams who was third only four seconds behind in 29:12. Anthonie Van Bosch finished ninth in a time of 31:46.
The women’s team was led home by ladies race winner Janine Brown after finishing 11th overall in a time of 32:26.
Lesley Hall and Jenny Brown finished the race in 28th and 29th place overall respectively to make up the successful Ladies Team.
Other Ashford AC finishers included Matthew Iles in 16th, John Norman in 42nd place and Andrew Huxley in 86th place.

Classic effort

FIVE members of Ashford AC took part in the Rye Summer Classic series 5k race with Warren Uden proving to be fastest on the night by running 17 minutes 42 seconds to finish in 18th place, just beating Ashford AC road running manager Matthew Hogben who recorded a time of 17:46 to secure 20th place. Kevin Williams, Darrel Rand and Timothy Forsythe all followed in quick succession finishing in 24th, 27th and 29th receptively.
Ashford AC is subsidising the cost of entry into the Rye Summer Classic series for all first claim members, as part of the road running development initiative.
The third race in the series is another 5k on September 19.
