Ashford AC Endurance Runners in Action

Declan Burton helped Kent win the British Athletics National Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in Birmingham on 12th March. Declan, from Headcorn was called into the under 20 Men team at the last minute. He finished 85th out of over 160 runners in the final major competition of the British cross country season.
 
Ashford parkrun on 12th March saw a win for Marshall Smith aged 15 and a new PB of 17minutes. 48seconds.  Oliver Prior, also aged 15 from Tenterden, was hot on his heals running sub 18minutes, getting third place in 17 minutes. 57seconds.  Matthew Hogben pushing his young daughter Jessica in her new racing buggy was 6th in 19.21. Young Ben Smith was also in action in 19th place.
 
Three members of Ashford AC were at the Lydd 20 mile race on Sunday 13th March. Declan Burton raced again completing his first ever 20 mile race in 2hours. 15minutes. 26 seconds.  Declan is running the London Marathon this April, to raise money for Citizens Advice BureauxHe was joined by Gerard O' Sullivan (2hours 14mins 45 seconds) and Peter Le Rossignol (2 hours.58 mins 26 seconds).  Gerard will be running the Brighton Marathon and former sprinter, Peter is also training for the London Marathon.

Ashford AC Athlete Takes National Triple Jump Title

Ashford AC Athlete, Grace Sullivan, became U17 National Triple Jump Champion at the England Athletics Championships in Bedford on 30 August.  Grace led the field from the second round with a jump of 11.49m. It was a difficult competition for all the athletes with driving rain and gusty winds. Grace managed to keep her composure after a no jump in third round producing three more jumps over 11 metres ending with a new personal best of 11.57m to secure the championship in the final round with Rhianna Reynolds of Kingston AC & Poly Harriers at 11.22m in second place and Georgia Doyle-Lay of Newquay & Par AC at 11.21m third. Her coach Mike Mien said that Grace has deserved this honour for all the hard work that she has put in this year.
